Comparing the prices of babycare products

Behind the numbers

Stocking babycare products is key for retailers to attract the higher-than-average basket spend that new parents can bring. The category is also broad, spanning nutrition and healthcare products – where can retailers drive profits?

The product this week with the biggest relative difference between its highest and most-common price is the Pretty Cherubs Baby Soother 1pk: 57% of retailers are charging up to £1.50, more than double the 69p set by 42%. Furthermore, 75% are charging up to £2.49 for the Pretty Cherubs Baby Feeding Bottle 250ml, nearly double the £1.25 charged by 24%.

Regarding food, 50% are exceeding the £12.39 most-common price on Cow & Gate Hungry First Infant Milk from Birth 800g, with some stretching to £15.09. Cleaning products are more restrictively priced: the lines from Johnson’s, Muckypups, Pampers and Huggies are all charged above their most-common prices by 25% or fewer of retailers.
