Retailers across the south of England have avoided potential disruption to their deliveries as Booker has agreed a new pay deal with drivers.

Forty drivers at Booker’s Thamesmead depot have been in an ongoing dispute with the wholesaler after it refused to implement the same £5 hourly pay rise given to counterparts at the Hemel Hempstead site. Strike action was threatened by the drivers as part of the discussions. However, Unite, the union representing the drivers, confirmed an agreement has been reached.

Unite regional officer Paul Travers said: ” Unite is very pleased  to announce that our drivers employed by Booker Retail Partners at its Thamesmead site have voted overwhelmingly for a new pay deal.

“It is a good deal that owes much to the solidarity that our members displayed during the dispute. The details of the offer remain confidential.

“Our members are working normally and we wish to have a constructive dialogue with the management as we move forward.”
