The kits contain advice and equipment for treating stab wounds

Convenience stores in Northamptonshire have been given stabbing-specific first-aid kits in an effort to save lives.

Of the 11 late-nightopening stores in Wellingborough, Raunds, Irchester, Finedon and Kettering to be given the ‘bleed bags’, eight are independent convenience shops.

Those calling emergency services following an incident can be guided to their nearest bleed-bag location and given a code to access the kits, which contain advice and equipment for treating stab wounds. Store participation in the scheme is marked by red stickers on the outside of the premises.

The scheme is organised by Off the Streets Team NN, formed following the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Dylan Holliday in Wellingborough in August. A similar scheme in nearby Corby launched last month following the murder of Rayon Pennycook in May.
