PayPoint has warned retailers to look out for fake representatives after a man appeared in court on charges of carrying out fraud by posing as a rep.
As he was sent to trial in Northern Ireland, PayPoint offered advice to retailers on what to do if they think they are being targeted.
A spokesperson for PayPoint said: “Retailers are at the heart of their communities and no one wants to see them targeted by the type of activity that’s alleged in this case.
“We never ask retailers to make a transaction over the phone, so make sure all transactions take place at the counter. If the customer isn’t present, don’t process the transaction.
“Always ask for ID from people claiming to be from PayPoint. Our people will always carry it.”
PayPoint asked retailers to call 0800 310 0000 if they suspect a rep may be a fake.
