Rishi Sunak has announced a new 50% business rates discount for businesses in the retail and hospitality sector

Chancellor Rishi Sunak outlined the governments spending in the Autumn Budget 2021 delivered in the House of Commons on 27 October, putting in place the governments three-year plan for the UK’s future spending.

Sunak’s Autumn Budget focused on “looking to the future and building a stronger economy for the British people”. The announcement outlined a number of economic plans to see the country through the expected tough winter ahead.

Some of the points that Rishi will mentioned in the Budget and Spending Review is further information outlining the increase in national insurance contributions which will help to provide more money to the NHS and social care.

According to Sky News, Government insiders have said that all departments are expected to see an increase in their day-to-day budgets in real terms.

Sunak is also announced a simplification of the alcohol duties in this budget, as well as discussions over reform and simplification of the tax system. However, further information regarding business rates reform is not expected after it was announced last week that there would be further delays.

A £435 million package of measures aimed at preventing crime will also form part of the Budget, with a focus on violence against women.

Some of the topics discussed which will proved relevant to businesses are;
  • Taxation – include information regarding increase to national insurance
  • Pay and wages – confirmation of the increase to National Living Wage
  • Crime – increased policing and measures aimed at preventing crime
