Winning National Lottery bidder Allwyn Entertainment is said to be in “advanced discussions” to acquire the UK arm of its defeated rival Camelot.
Earlier this week, Sky News reported a circa- £100m takeover deal could be signed “in the coming weeks”. The deal would reportedly end Camelot’s compensation claim against the Gambling Commission for awarding Allwyn the National Lottery contract.
Sources told Better Retailing that until Camelot’s claim was resolved, it was likely to impede Allwyn’s ability to communicate its plans for the National Lottery to stakeholders, including partnered stores.
The news follows a poll by RN in October showing the majority of independent retailers have concerns over the handover of the lottery to Allwyn.
