Allwyn announces last call for £140k retailer prize

Nominations for ‘Local Retail Champions’ close on 20 October

A final call for submissions to Allwyn’s search for ‘Local Retail Champions’ has been released, with entries closing in just over a week (20 October).

The campaign aims to reward its National Lottery retailers for their role in communities, with more than 600 retailers voted for so far.

Members of the public are being asked to nominate a Lottery retailer who has gone ‘above and beyond’ to support their local community. Retailers voted for may sponsor local clubs, accommodate wheelchair users or organise community sessions to help out in the area. More than 100 retailers will win a prize.

The prizes available are: a cash prize of £5,000 and a social value store makeover (a makeover to improve the benefit the store’s customers, community or environment) worth £20,000 (both prizes for two individual retailers); a cash prize of £5,000 for 16 individual retailers; and a £100 cash prize for a further 100 runners-up.

The makeover for improving the winning stores’ ‘social value’ could include energy efficient fixtures, lessons for staff who want to use sign language, or a refurbished space designed for community use.

Criteria for nominating a store can include retailers delivering to those unable to reach their shop or improving wheelchair access, offering part of their premises to local groups, sponsoring sports clubs or local groups or stocking locally produced produce.

Andria Vidler, Allwyn’s CEO, said; “We understand the valuable role that retailers play in their local area, and the efforts they make to ensure their customers and communities are looked after. We’ve already heard just a few of the heart-warming stories being uncovered by this campaign and I just know there’s going to be lots of others – so we’re now urging retailers to get their customers to nominate them for the amazing prizes on offer before nominations close in just over a week.”

A customer must be 18 or over to nominate and should write up to 150 words before 20 October on how their local National Lottery retailer has made the community a better place.

Retailers should direct their customers to the following website before 20 October to be nominated: www.tnllocalretailchampions.co.uk/
